Surround Sound Reference Disc

Surround Study Group, AES Japan Section

Surround Study Group of AES Japan Section has recorded and evaluated the large scale surround sound recordings since 2006. Thanks to the fundings from Hoso Bunka Kikin and many co-sponsors, the project report was presented in the 123rd AES Convention in New York, in October 4th through 8th, 2007.

We are happy to announce that the Surround Sound Reference Disc is now available for the public, which was one of our important goals.

DVD-1 is a DVD-Video disc which enables the listener to compare eight difference surround sound recording techniques. This is a good reference for any recording engineers who are interested in surround sound recordings.

DVD-2 is a DVD-Audio disc which has four mixes by Japanese engineers. The disc can be used to check the listener's playback system.

Another disc is a CD-ROM disc containing the documentations. Also, some test signals such as a reference grade pink noise and sine wave are included in WAV format.
